What is Lambda Alpha?
Established in 1968, Lambda Alpha is a national honor society founded to promote the study of anthropology. The name Lambda Alpha is composed of the initial letters of the Greek words LOGOS ANTHROPOU, meaning "The Study of Humans." Alpha of Indiana is the Lambda Alpha chapter in the Department of Anthropology at Ball State University.
Lambda Alpha Recognizes Student Achievement
As an honor society, Lambda Alpha
acknowledges superiority and provides incentives for exceptional performance by
granting certificates of accomplishment. This provides an opportunity for
faculty and students to work together on mutually advantageous projects.
Lambda Alpha awards two national scholarships, and international research grants annually.
A $5,000 scholarship is given to a deserving graduating senior majoring in
anthropology. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a junior in anthropology.
Only applicants from chartered chapters qualify to compete for these awards.
The application deadline for scholarships each year is March 1. Please
contact Dr. Mark Groover (Alpha of Indiana faculty sponsor) for application
details. The editorial policy of the Lambda Alpha Journal provides for 50 percent of its
space to be reserved for student publication. This offers students a
unique opportunity to publish while still in school and to see their work in
print in a respected national journal. Lambda Alpha also sponsors an
annual student conference.
